CTE Guest Speaker 2

We had a speaker come in to talk about the Hour of Code, and was surprisingly, the founder of it who was Hadi Partovi. He talked about his background, and where he grew up, and how he didn't learn much about computer science, where it wasn't offered where he was from, which was Iran. He mentioned he taught himself how to code, and immigrated to the United States and started to work as an software engineer. As he was working his way up to a higher position, he was successfully accepted to Harvard University and graduated with Masters degree. His passion grew for computer science and developed "Code.org". Hadi's success grew with the guidance from his family and mentors, and influenced him to aim higher and never settle for less.

CTE Guest Speaker 1

When Joanna Munoz visited our class, she explained what the internships, Future and Options was offering, and I was looking forward to hearing about it, because I knew I needed to complete an internship at the time. She talked about how she got to where she is, and the struggles she went through to achieve her goals. Even though, she mentioned how she was still new to the job, she explained how success still shaped her and made her grow as a person and individual. Surprisingly, I liked her and wanted to get more info about the kinds of internships she was offering.  She gave out business cards from Future and Options to people who were interested in her internships including me. I kept in mind, that I shouldn't miss out in an opportunity like this, because I needed this as an requirement to get my CTE Diploma, and as a bonus, I would get paid for the internship hours.

CTE Seminar / Webinar 1

CTE Seminar and Webinars are always exciting because it's where we network the most, and meet new people at events with professional people. These professional people have exciting careers inside the technology field. In addition, I think it's interesting to hear their story of how they became successful and introduce myself to them and show them how I'm a part of Web Design. This first event we went together was fun because we were all together and meeting new people.

CTE Career Day Senior Year

This career day was the last for me, since I will be graduating. All of us in Web Design were sad because we know for a fact, we're all going to miss each other, and being part of this academy, and learning from Ms.Ramirez. Meeting new people on this day, talking about their careers was actually boring for me. I was too busy enjoying a day without work and just chilling with the other Web Designers. But we did act professional, and like mature students when the guests came to see our individual work, and presented it in a mannered way with respect and energy.

Power Skills--Synopsis

The Web Design course has helped me in so many ways, where I gained many skills through out the years in this academy. It's preparing me for the future where we go on trips to big companies and meet people that work in that field and understand how they got where they are in with their experience. I am who I am now because of Web Design, as independent, responsible, student with great communicating skills. The skills I gained being in this academy, I can use in my everyday life, but mainly for college and my future career.

Power Skills Interview Skills

In my opinion, "Choice C" sounds dumb because there shouldn't be any requests look over decisions, since that it unprofessional and not chosen in the work field. In the second meeting, it was more sophisticated and well considered, as the interviewee understood her qualities, abilities, and the energy she had for work. As talking for myself, the job applicant that I would want to be is the professional, communicative, responsible person who is ready to work and take on any task that is given to me.

Power Skills Networking

Networking is also very important when it comes to expanding your viewpoints and change your perspective on things, for the better of yourself. You learn how to improve on your own work, from communicating with others, and showing your work to them. When you meet new people, you improve your communication skills, and networking skills, because you get comfortable with engaging with others while being professional and sophisticated while interacting in a conversation with whom ever. At the moment, I am working on networking with others to show my websites that I have been working during my high school years. I hope, my networking skills improve in college, and be more open to talking to others, and step out my comfort zone for the benefit of myself.  Engaging with the right people can you get you further in your path, with dedication, motivation, and I would say just a friendly conversation while being energetic about work.

Power Skills Communicati

Communication is essential and insistent when it comes to being part of Web Design. You work with other peers and other individuals to express your own ideas and here their ideas. Explaining your thoughts and what you think on websites allows a more wide visualization of what you're talking about. Your ability to communicate comes from experience, and experience is important when you can be the effective teacher. From communicating with others, is a chance for you to gain knowledge and understand their experience, and learn from their experiences, and be a more effective communicator right there.

Problem-Solving and Critical Thinking

Critical Thinking and Problem Solving skills are important to have as Web Designers. In coding, many challenges come upon us, and most of the time, we have to think outside the box to come up with the functions to solve a problem or algorithms as a solution. Trying to think of a solution for a code and going deeper into it is critical thinking in Web Design. There can be a small error which might be almost impossible to find in so many lines of coding, but you think about how to discover the issue in many ways, when in the end, you find the mistake and fix it. This goes the same for algorithms in coding with tags and functions using softwares like Javascript and CSS styles.

Power Skill Professionalism

Professionalism plays an important role in almost everything. In order, to be successful you have to be professional and show that you are capable of being serious about your work, or working with others. It demonstrates that you are committed to the course. In Web Design, all the trips we went on, we had to dress professional and act professional to present ourselves in mannered way. Without being professional, it shows that you aren't serious about your future, and just want to play around, and you'll never get anywhere with that kind of impression. You want the people at the workforce, to think you're capable of handing in your best work, and don't take anything as a joke.

Project 5 Reflection

The Shark Tank project was personally my favorite one throughout the three years I've been in Web Design Academy. I enjoyed working on it with William and Veronica, and creating logos, and color scheme for it. The best part, was creating the site for our "clients" who were also our peers in the class. We struggled a bit with the time management, and trying to finish it, with the creative brief as well, but managed to complete it and having our client like it. Since, we all had roles of what to do, we knew what we had to finish when we weren't in class. For example, Veronica was our leader of our team, and our programmer. William was our researcher for both the websites, and our presenter, while I was the designer for the CSS.      Through this project, I learned how to work with others better and design better with CSS. I can now create better layouts for any website, if I'm given a color scheme and a theme. Between both of the clients and the two ...
